About Terrence Butler
I like seeing the growth and confidence spiral upward and outward in every individual that I teach. I have been involved with music most of my life. I began by singing in my church and school choirs. I began playing the piano around 9 years old and initially studied at the Brooklyn Academy of Music , music school.
I began playing for church choirs and small Gospel groups in high school. While at Columbia University I decided to major in music. During my time there I formed the Gospel Choir which is still active decades later, I was also the keyboard player for a fusion group called Headway.
I have been teaching seriously since 2000 and full time online since the advent of Covid. Music is my passion in life. I thoroughly enjoy what I do.
I promise you friendly , professional service plus a whole lot of fun !

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Columbia University. As stated above I've been giving informal lessons since my collegiate years. Since ve 1975. Professionally I've been giving individual instruction in piano sincee 2001. I've taught in churches, homes , schools and my private studio.

Positive energy, constructive feedback and guidance makes the learning effective and enjoyable

Having been an adult student of Terrence for the las 2 years has been a musically enriching experience. His breath of musical knowledge and styles, his ability to communicate that knowledge in a variety of ways as well as his capacity to customize lessons based on my level of proficiency and interests has helped me greatly improve my piano skills. Terrence's immediate feedback during lessons and his follow-up of assignments between lessons has help maintain my focus and motivation. He is always available to listen to pieces I send him and address them on the upcoming lessons. Terrence is not only an asset as a teacher but also as a member of any private or public organization where musical talent is required.

Terrance is a slew of knowledge. As a piano teacher he brings more than just hitting the keys. He is fun and funny and makes lessons easy. I am a returning student after many years and I now know 3 pieces and hope to learn some more.
